We all know the approaches we need to take to reduce our commuting impact on the environment. You've seen the message from your city, state and government on the impact of driving to work. If all of use increased our carpooling or took more public transportation, we could potentially: Reduce the amount of gas we use (and pump into the atmosphere) Reduce traffic congestion (which increases how much gas we waste idling in traffic) Get more stuff done (if someone else is driving) Reduce your total expenses (not always, but in some cases) Increase your social interaction and networking (versus driving yourself to work) and many more reasons... So why aren't we changing our behavior quickly enough? Too much work? Not enough incentive? Not enough reminders? We decided to develop a feature on the site to record and rate your driving commute, so you can see what impact you have, and provide yourself some incentive to change behaviors. For each day you work, simply record the round-trip distance you travel, and what method you used to get there. Here are the different selections, each with a different point system: I did not work today (day off, vacation) (0 pts) Drove by myself in a non-fuel efficient vehicle (1 pt) Drove by myself in a fuel efficient vehicle (2 pts) Carpooled with one other rider in non-fuel efficient vehicle (3 pts) Combination of mass transportation, carpooling and/or driving by myself (4 pts) Carpooled with two or more riders in non-fuel efficient vehicle (5 pts) Took fuel efficient single rider vehicle (scooter, moped, electric bike, motorcycle, segway) (6 pts) Carpooled with one other rider in fuel efficient vehicle (7 pts) Carpooled with two or more riders in fuel efficient vehicle (8 pt) Took mass transportation (bus, train, subway, trolley, shuttle bus) (9 pts) Used no gasoline to get to work (bike, walk, work from home) (10 pts) Want to see an example?
