CUSTOM EMPLOYEE COMMUTING REPORT FOR YOUR COMPANY
2/22/2009 - HelpSaveEarth.org wants to make going green easier for people and companies alike. Many of us feel we can make a big impact on the environment by reducing the distance or method of getting to work each day. Companies also realize that they can show their concern for the environment by encouraging their employees to reduce their carbon footprint. There is even speculation that the government will start imposting reductions in "indirect" emissons (like travel, employee commuting, leased assets, etc). Carpooling and other less expensive forms of transportation can save their employees money and more importantly improve communication and collaboration between employees during their daily commutes. However, simply putting up some posters around the office won't get that many people involved, only the true environmentalists.
Here are some problems we have heard from those trying to start an initiative at work for reducing their commuting impact on the environment
Many employees do not know where other employees live, so they don't know how easy it would be to carpool (some or all of the time) with people they already know. Others may know where their friends live but never considered carpooling as an option, because some days they may need to run errands, or stay late, etc. Carpooling may only be feasible for certain days of the week, but that option isn't made available for the employee to consider.
Many companies do not know how to physically display their employee addresses on a map, so they can notify employees that live near each other that carpooling would be a good option. This will also help them show the employees how many different people live nearby them, so that there is a greater likelihood of finding a group that they will get along well with, or have similar work hours.
Many companies cannot calculate the approximate driving distance of each employee to work, so they cannot calculate their commuting carbon footprint (tons of carbon emissions), therefore converting it into something meaningful to all (number of trees destroyed).
HelpSaveEarth.org has developed a method to take your employee's addresses, and calculate the distance to the office, and the carbon emissions by month and year for your employees.

Obtain a list of addresses from the employees at your company or organization, and email it to us. They must all drive to the same office location, since there is only one office calculated per report (companies with multiple locations will need to order multiple reports). We do not want the employee names, just their addresses (address, city, state, zip code). Use the following templates as a guide (Excel, first address must be the office or final destination address). If you would like to color-code your employees (optional), you can have up to 10 different groupings (departments, job types, etc).
We will then create the report (sample reports below), and email it back to you within 3 business days
Review the reports, and determine:
Which employees currently carpool or use alternative travel methods to work (bike, walk, public transportation, etc) and remove them from the overall report, or modify their impact based upon their actual driving days.
Which employees have the longest commutes, and suggest options for reducing impact for them (carpooling, public transportation, etc).
Locations where many employees are clustered together, and suggest meetup locations where they can carpool together
Communicate the impact of driving to your employees, to show them the number of trees impacted by their driving, and encourage them to look for new methods of transportation.
Update your report monthly, quarterly or yearly, to show how your efforts and getting improvement. Save $100 when you order monthly reports for an entire year ($500 for 12 reports).
