Recycle styrofoam
If you can't avoid the styrofoam in the first place, the next best option is to find a place that will recycle it. Blue Earth Solutions has developed a process to recycle the styrofoam, so it can be reused. This prevents oil and plastic from being used to create new pellets, and prevents the foam from being sent to the landfill. Other problems with styrofoam is that it can breakdown into small pieces, get into our water streams, where marine wildlife will eat it as food. This can kill the fish, and it may ultimately end up back on our dinner plate. The Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers (AFPR) provides a mail-back program (see link below). Check with your local recycler to see if they have other options. If you can't recycle it, see if there are ways to reuse it in your home.
