Can't seem to curb your addiction to a cup of 'Joe'? Try some of these tips to reduce your impact on the environment
Stop buying coffee from "the big four": Nestlé, Kraft, Procter and Gamble, and Sara Lee/Doewe Egberts (or their alias names such as Millstone, Maxwell House, etc)
Buy organic coffee. You'll need to do some research to figure out which ones are organic (try link below)
Use your own mug! Disposable coffee cups have to be the most wasteful products
Buy from a local roaster, since a local grower may not be that close by for most people
Quit using paper coffee filters. There is a reusable gold filter for virtually every pot on the market

Many plantations over the last few decades have replaced their shade grown techniques with sun cultivation techniques to increase yields, which in turn destroyed vast forests and biodiversity. Sun cultivation involves cutting down trees, and high inputs of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Environmental problems, such as deforestation, pesticide pollution, habitat destruction, soil and water degradation, are the effects of most modern coffee farms. It takes about 140 litres of water to produce one cup of coffee, which is especially damaging to countries where water is so scarce
What do you think about the 'Toddy'? It is a cold brew system that yields concentrated coffee, reuseable filters and no electricity to make. To drink, you dilute it for iced coffee or heat in microwave?.....refrigerate it.... or i s there another system for us caffeine drawn masses? DelozierLahr - 8/8/2009 10:33:22 AM
The damage that will occur to my office by me cutting back on coffee is not worth going green over. DMMike - 4/20/2010 1:52:01 PM
Haha! If your lack of productivity (or physical destruction) from cutting back on coffee outweighs the benefits, then maybe you should INCREASE your coffee consumption to be more green! hbomb7 - 4/21/2010 12:43:17 AM
